    Custom Authentication Interface

    Purpose - To provide the Publisher with an option to authenticate readers against a URL while still using the standard login page.

    Prerequisite -

    1. The URL will need to be set up by the Publisher prior to implementation.

    2. A login only subscription entry in the dashboard will need to be set up prior to use.

    New Publication

    App Banner - (Native iOS App Feature ONLY) upload an app banner to appear in the issue gallery. An app banner is a horizontal ad that will appear at the top of the screen in the issue gallery

    App Banner Function – once an app banner has been uploaded, you will proceed to select “URL”

    App Banner URL – the URL that is associated to the app banner

    Archive Sidebar – a column of cover thumbnails of the archived issues that can be customized by selecting the position, title, and color theme of the sidebar

    Category – categorize the content of your digital edition

    Circulation – current circulation size of the digital edition (for internal use)

    Default Domain - the domain that will appear for all reader links

    Drawer Background - changes the background color of drawer slide-outs

    Drawer Background Opacity - changes the transparency of the drawer based on a number from 0 - 100 (100 being completely opaque)

    Drawer Divider - affects the color of the border of drawer slide-outs and navigation toolbars (the color of the edge)

    Drawer Text - changes the color of text found in drawer slide-outs

    Edit Share With A Friend Email (Article) - customize the look of the share email that will be sent, when readers share articles through email

    Enable Push Notifications – (Native iOS App Feature ONLY) enables Push Notifications that alert a reader of content updates, messages, and other events within an app

    InfoDeck Icon – (Native App Feature) icon that appears in the RSS bar at the bottom of the issue when viewing in the app

    InfoDeck Link – (Native App Feature) a URL that is associated to the InfoDeck and will launch at the opening of the app in the issue gallery

    InfoDeck Title - (Native App Feature) the title that appears in the RSS bar at the bottom of the issue when viewing in the app

    iPhone Icon - icon that appears above the issue when the reader is viewing the issue from the mobile browser or when readers bookmark the publication to a mobile desktop

    Language - select language for the toolbar options to display in

    Manage Social Network Settings For This Publication – choose from a preset list of social networks that allows you to disable and manage which networks will appear to the viewer for sharing the publication or pages within the publication

    Notifications Email - override the publisher’s contact email for issue activation messages

    Publication Custom Logo Description - description that appears when hovering over the toolbar logo

    Publication Logo - logo that appears in the center of the screen when the issue is loading

    Publication Name – name of the publication, to be displayed publicly

    Publication Type – the style of publication being uploaded

    Publication Viewer Without Branding - removes the default branding from the viewer (such as publisher logos), providing a basic non-branded URL link and may incur an additional charge per page

    Publication Website - the URL to be associated with the toolbar logo for all issues within this publication (can be offset on an individual issue basis)

    Publish Frequency – specify how often new issues will be published

    Right to Left (Mobile Apps Only) – (Native App Feature) displays issues in an ascending order in the issue gallery (oldest to newest); note this appears in all app platforms

    RSS Add/Description – (Native App Feature) enter RSS feed URL along with a brief description of the feed, for use within apps

    Save as Default for Future Publications – an option that allows future publications to be created with the same preset options selected

    Setup Method – select the service level as a default (allows you to bypass the service selection section during the upload process)

    Show Change Reader Password Link – provides mechanism for a user to change their password when accessing a publication with a subscription

    Use RSS Feeds in InfoDeck - (Native App Feature) enables the RSS feed or InfoDeck to appear in the app

    Issue Settings Definitions

    Advertisers Style - style format of how the Advertisers dropdown is displayed; the three options are List (default), Thumbnails and List Tree

    Allow Your Readers To Send You An Email Via Publication Toolbar - enables the reader to email the publisher through the digital edition viewer’s toolbar; the email is specified in this location

    Animated Icon Toolbar Logo – logo that appears in an animated toolbar

    Articles Theme Background Color - color that appears in text articles’ background, in the publication bar; specify a hexadecimal number or choose one from the Paint Palette

    Articles Theme Text Color - color that appears in text articles’ title bars; specify a hexadecimal number or choose one from the Paint Palette

    Background Image – an image can be uploaded in place of a background color to further customize the backdrop in the digital edition viewer

    Contents Style - style format of how the Contents dropdown is displayed; the three options are List (default), Thumbnails and List Tree

    Custom Dropdown Name – the name of a custom dropdown item to be displayed in the toolbar, if a custom dropdown item has been created

    Custom Dropdown Style - the style format of how the custom dropdown is displayed (once a custom dropdown has been created); the three options are: List (default), Thumbnails and List Tree

    Custom Dropdown Width – the width of the custom dropdown; specify between 100 and 300 pixels

    Custom PDF URL – the URL of a PDF hosted on an external site; recommended for larger-sized issues that require compression of the file size (performed by the publisher)

    Date – specify a date to keep issues in chronological order; opt to enter the date that the issue is being uploaded or the publish date (if uploading back issues)

    Default Link Color - specify the color of the links in the digital edition viewer by entering a hexadecimal color code or by selecting a color from the Paint Palette; this should be selected before conversion (subject to change based on assistance level)

    Default to Single Page View - changes the default page view mode to single page

    Disable Advertisers - removes the advertisers dropdown from the toolbar

    Disable Archives - removes the archive dropdown, making previous issues inaccessible

    Disable Article Share & Translate - removes the article share and translate features

    Disable Center Shadow By Default – removes the center shadow in the center of each spread

    Disable Contents – removes the contents dropdown in the digital edition toolbar

    Disable Fonts - used for toolbars that require special font set (e.g., a toolbar that is used for a different language that has special characters)

    Disable Link Auto Hiding – prevents link boxes from automatically fading away, keeping the link box present at all times

    Disable Link Visibility – disable link boxes from flashing when pages are initially loaded

    Disable Loading Screen – disable any loading logos from appearing when the issue first loads

    Disable Notes Button – removes the ability to create notes within an issue

    Disable Page Animation – removes the flipping page animation when navigating through the digital edition

    Disable Page Flipping Sound - disables the page turn sound-effect when navigating through the digital edition

    Disable Page Printing – disables the ability to print pages

    Disable PDF Download – disables the ability to download a PDF copy of the digital edition

    Disable Presentation Pages On iOS Devices - (Native App Feature) disables the presentation page on any app platform that may be associated with the digital edition, if a presentation page is present

    Disable Proactive SEO Initiatives – disables any proactive initiatives to list your digital edition in search engine results

    Disable Rollover Sound – removes the short audio that plays when hovering over a link box

    Disable Send To A Friend - disables the viewer’s ability to share the issue or pages within the issue via direct URL through email

    Disable Shopping List – (Retail Services Feature) removes the shopping list feature from the product detail page; the shopping list feature will only appear in retail option D or E

    Disable Social Bookmarks – disables social network sharing features

    Disable Thumbs Button - removes the option to view page thumbs from the digital edition toolbar

    Disable Widget Button - disables the widget from appearing on your desktop, if a widget has been placed

    Disable Wishlist – (Retail Services Feature) disables the wishlist feature in item rollovers, if rollover options B or C are selected

    Do Not Include My Publication in The Coverstand Digital Library – deselect this option if you would like to feature your content in the CoverStand Digital Library; your publication will not appear in Coversstand by default

    Don’t Auto-hide Subscription Reminder Arrow – keeps the reminder arrow visible in digital editions when a subscription is enabled with preview pages

    Edit Share with A Friend Email (Article) – customize the look of the share email that will be sent, when readers share articles through email; set the default email for the entire publication or set a different email for each issue via the New Issue / Edit Issue page

    Enable Custom Dropdown Button – enables the display of a custom dropdown item in the digital edition viewer’s toolbar

    Flip Style - select the speed of page flipping: normal or accelerated

    InfoDeck Icon - (Native App Feature) icon that appears in the InfoDeck bar in an app

    InfoDeck Link - (Native App Feature) URL that appears in the InfoDeck of the issue gallery in an app

    InfoDeck Title - (Native App Feature) title that appears in the InfoDeck title bar in an app

    Issue Custom Logo Description - text that appears when hovering over the toolbar logo

    Issue Description – enter a short issue description, to be displayed in the issue gallery view within apps

    Issue Logo - logo that appears at the beginning of the loading screen when the digital edition is being viewed

    Issue Name - name of the issue that falls under the publication or title; often these are months followed by years, such as “October 2012”

    Issue Side Arrows - arrows that appear on the side of each page and allow the reader to navigate the issue by clicking on them

    Issue URL (Link for Viewer Issue Logo) – enter URL link that will be associated to toolbar logo

    Manage Social Network Settings For This Issue - choose from a preset list of social networks that allows you to disable and manage which networks will appear to the viewer for sharing the issues or pages within the issue

    Page Corners - icons that can be placed on the corners of each page in the digital edition, prompting the reader to navigate the issue; page corners can be placed on the top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right or any combination of the four options

    Publication name - name of the publication, to be displayed publicly

    Purchase Order/ Issue Code - job number, code, or purchase order numbers to be entered for reference and billing purposes (if applicable)

    Remove Side Arrow Navigation - remove the navigation arrows on the right and/or left side position of the digital edition viewer

    Remove Side Icons - remove the menu bar of features from the right-side position of the digital edition viewer

    Right To Left Navigation (iPad/iPhone Only) - (Native App Feature) displays issues in ascending order in the issue gallery (oldest to newest); this option will appear in all app platforms

    RSS Feeds Setup – if the Add button is selected, the ability to add the RSS Feed URLs and the RSS description will be enabled; only displays in apps

    Save - saves the settings and selections for this issue; if settings are to be used as defaults, the “save as default for future issues” option must be selected in conjunction with this

    Save As Default For Future Issues – saves all selected options as default selections when creating new issues in the future

    Search Only This Issue - limit the search functionality to only the current issue being viewed

    Select Animated Toolbar – selection of animated toolbars that will animate as you hover through the icon selection

    Select Toolbar - selection of assorted colors and icons to customize your toolbar

    Shopping List URL - (Retail Services Feature) retail option from the rollover product detail page that allows the creation of shopping lists that can be emailed or printed for personal use only

    Text Article Target – specify how text articles display: Pop-up, in a separate window, or in Media Deck, in a slide-out window

    Theme – select a contents/advertisers dropdown border in either gray or black

    This Is A Circular – (Retail Services Feature) option that places an “items” option on the toolbar that groups items together in an item’s list page

    Thumb Display - select how the page thumbs display when selected from the dropdown (options include Full Page or Carousel)

    Toolbar Language - select a language for the digital edition viewer’s toolbar

    Toolbar Logo – logo that acts as the toolbar logo that appears on the righthand side of the digital edition viewer’s toolbar

    Toolbar Logo 2 – logo that appears on the left-hand side of the digital edition toolbar; note the issue URL cannot differ from that of the initial toolbar logo, if selected

    Toolbar Orientation – select where the digital edition viewer’s toolbar is placed: top or bottom; select animated toolbars allow for left-hand placement

    Uploading a Publication: Advanced Settings

    • Auto Activate Issue – automatically activates issue upon completing the conversion process
    • Automatically Simplify PDF Structure – reduce/remove resources (and hidden objects) to ensure PDF is optimized for online viewing; also improves PDF compatibility with older versions of Acrobat
    • Callback URL – provide a URL to be called when the conversion process has finished; when using the callback, it is not necessary to provide an email for conversion notification
    • Suppress Issue Autolinking – disables automatic linking of URLs in PDFs with selectable text
    • Vector Line Stroke – select thin, to minimize the appearance of vector lines, or thicker; note thicker vector line stroke is not compatible with Flash 1.0 Viewer and limits zoom feature capabilities

    Use JPEGs For Zooming Instead of PDFs – (Native App Feature) uses JPEGs instead of PDFs when zooming on iOS apps; for use when PDF pages may not be optimal

    Use RSS Feeds in InfoDeck - (Native App Feature) enables the RSS feed or InfoDeck to appear in an app

    Viewer Background Color – select the background color of the digital edition viewer by entering a hexadecimal color code or by selecting a color from the Paint Palette

    Viewer Help URL – specify a URL to be used for the Help button in the digital edition viewer; if no URL is specified, the default help menu appears

    Viewer Version – select a digital edition viewer to use; by default the latest version of the viewer is automatically selected

    Zoom Slider Position – specify the position of the zoom slider: on the digital edition toolbar or on the side icons bar to the right of the digital edition

    Zoom Style – select how zoom is performed in the digital edition viewer: Slider Zoom or Toggle Zoom

  • When directed to your custom registration url, the user will be passed with three additional variables:

     

    btx_i - Issue ID
    btx_pub_id - Publisher ID
    btx_m - Publication ID

    Your url should have two fields for login, one for login name and another for password. This form should submit to the desired domain + "/publication/logincheck.php" (e.g., http://www.mydigitalpublication.com/publication/logincheck.php). The fields should be named reader_login for the entered login, reader_password for the entered password, pub_id for the Publisher ID, and either "i" for the Issue ID (if a specific issue ID is requested) or "l" set to 1 and "m" set to the desired Publication ID (if the latest issue of a publication is desired).
