Setup A Custom Registration

The custom registration URL works as a redirect, rerouting readers to a specified custom URL page when attempting to access the Digital Edition. The Publisher is responsible for subscription purchases, page design, and providing access to subscribers. The custom registration URL must include options for readers to log in and/or subscribe/register to view the edition.

Users will need to be communicated back to the database via CSV upload or through the XML Subscription API. A CSV upload is a manual update. Readers will have access once the CSV file is uploaded or the user is added manually.

Adding readers via the API is a real-time update. Please keep in mind, the API requires programming work on the backend of the purchase site.

In brief, the Custom Registration URL you are assuming all responsibility for how the transaction is processed, how the reader is posted to the subscriptions database, authenticated, and re-directed to the Digital Edition upon authentication.

10. Do not check Outbound Email Only.

12. Include Archives – If you would like to include archives, leave the field checked. Otherwise, uncheck this option.

Note: An archive issue is any issue that has been published prior to a given reader's subscription start date. By default archive issues are available to readers with a subscription that covers them.

To remove access to archive issues from a subscription, uncheck the box marked Include Archives.

For example, if a reader's subscription begin date is January 1, 2017 and "Include Archives" is unchecked, the subscriber will only be able to view issues with a publish date of January 1, 2017 and any subsequent issues until his/her subscription expires.

The subscriber will not be permitted to view issues with a publish date prior to January 1, 2017. To add archives back to a subscription, simply recheck the box.

13. Select Purchase Method – "None (Custom Registration URL Required)" if no purchase subscriptions offered. Select "Web" if you offer subscriptions for sale.

If you would like to offer other registration options using our default registration page, then you may offer or require registration fields. Email address is mandatory.

Required fields must be filled out by the reader prior to the completion of his/her registration/subscription.

Offered fields are optional; the reader does not have to enter these in order to register/subscribe. Please remember email address is the only mandatory field.
Note: For Android Apps - If you have a Custom Registration URL and offer subscriptions for sale, the subscription Purchase Method should be "Web".

This purchase method generates a "Subscribe Online" button in your Android App. When a reader clicks on that button, he/she will be redirected to your Custom Registration URL and be able to purchase a subscription. New subscribers must be communicated back to us for authentication.

If you do not offer subscriptions for sale through your Custom Registration URL, then the subscription Purchase Method should be "None". This purchase method does not generate the "Subscribe Online" button. This makes the Android App a Login Only experience.
